Part One:
.
Materials:
Size 4 to 7- 24 to 29" circular needle. If you knit loose, use a size 4, tight go up to the size 7. Whatever gauge gives
you 5 sts. to 1" in worsted weight stockinette stitch.
Yarn: left over balls of many colors. This is a great project to use up all those balls you keep thinking you need to get
out of the house. This project is for you and is great for shopping or traveling.
Part One : Cast on 70 sts (leaving about 18" for sewing later )
Knit all rows until piece measures 6" Break off yarn leaving a 18" tail.
Part Two: Push Part one to opposite end of your circular and ignore it for right now. With color
B, cast on 90 sts. Knit them and then work across the 70 previously worked. Place a marker and being very careful not to twist
your stitches, join your stitches to form a circle. From now on we'll be working in the round. Working on the 160 stitches
knit one row, then purl one row.
Pattern:
Row 1and 2: Knit
Row 3 and 4: K2, P2 across
repeat these rows until piece measure approx. 4" ending with row 2. If you run out of yarn add a third color. Begin new
color with row 1
.
Part Three
Attach color C at beginning or round leaving color B attached. Begin pattern
Row 1 and 2: with color C knit
Row 3 and 4: *K2 with C, K2 with B* repeat around
Row 5 and 6: Knit with color C
Row 7 and 8: Knit with color B
Row 9 and 10: *K2 with B, K2 with C* repeat around
Row 11 and 12: Knit with color B
repeat rows 1 -12 once more
If you haven't mastered two handed knitting, now is the perfect time. Work these rows knitting with color B in your right
hand and color C in your left hand. I actually knit "American" with my right hand and continental with my left. It keeps the
yarn from getting all twisted when working the Fair Isle pattern. You can find dozens of directions online for knitting this
way.
