Easy to knit hat comes in sizes Infant to Adult and in three yarn weights

This Spiral Hat was knit using

Mexican Wave Yarn.

Materials needed:  3 ozs. of worsted, DK or sport weight
Size 8 16" circular and double point  needles for worsted,  size 7 for DK, and size 5 or 6 for sport, or needles needed to give you gauge
needle for sewing up the top and tucking in all your ends.
 
Gauge:  4 stitches to 1" for worsted, 5 to 1" DK weight, and 6 to 1" in sport weight
 
In worsted: Cast on 56 for baby size, 65 for child, 71 for small adult (teen), 80 for adult
In DK: Cast on 71, 80, 92,  101
In Sport: Cast on: 86, 98, 110, 122
 
To make the brim, Knit in the following pattern for 3" or desired length.
K3, P3 Repeat around.  Pattern will be moving over 1 stitch each round to form the spiral pattern.
After completing the brim Knit around each row until piece measures 6" for a non-roll up brim or 9" for a roll up brim.  Place a marker and begin decrease rows.
 
Decrease:
Row 1: Knit 6, K 2 tog around .  You may have extra stitches at the end of the row, just knit them.
Row 2: K 5, K 2 tog around.
Row 3: Knit 4, K 2 tog around
Row 4: Knit 3, K2 tog around
Row 5: K 2 , K 2 tog around
Row 6: K 1 , K 2 tog around
Row 7: Knit 2 tog, repeat until only five stitches remain. Cut yarn leaving a 10" tail.  Run yarn through stitches and fasten off , tack end in.  Fasten off all yarn ends and finish as desired with yarn braids, i-cord , Pom-poms, etc.
